DSIP was originally identified because of its association with slow-wave (delta) EEG activity. Early experimental studies demonstrated increased delta-wave activity following administration, leading to the name Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide.
Insomnia & Sleep Quality Research
DSIP has undergone small human clinical studies involving chronic insomnia. A double-blind study of 16 people found higher sleep efficiency and shorter sleep latency compared with placebo, although the researchers concluded that the effects were weak and that short-term DSIP was unlikely to provide major therapeutic benefit.
