SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3)

SNAP-8, also known as Acetyl Octapeptide-3, is a synthetic cosmetic peptide developed for use in advanced anti-ageing skincare formulations. It is an eight-amino-acid peptide and is closely related to Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8).

SNAP-8 has attracted interest for its potential to help soften the visible appearance of expression lines and wrinkles, particularly in areas affected by repetitive facial movement such as the forehead, around the eyes and between the eyebrows.

How SNAP-8 Works

SNAP-8 was designed to interact with processes involved in neurotransmitter release and facial muscle contraction. It is modelled on part of the SNAP-25 protein, which forms part of the SNARE complex involved in neuronal signalling.

By influencing this signalling pathway, SNAP-8 is proposed to reduce the intensity of repetitive muscle contractions at the skin’s surface. This may help expression lines appear smoother and less pronounced over time.

Unlike botulinum toxin treatments, SNAP-8 is primarily used topically in cosmetic formulations such as serums and creams.
